Chico Buarque is preparing a new lawsuit against Eduardo Bolsonaro; song manuscript is trump

by

After seeing the Justice of Rio de Janeiro reject in the first instance a lawsuit by Chico Buarque against state deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) for the misuse of the song “Roda Viva”, now the singer’s defense will change strategy. The idea is not to appeal, let the case be filed and then file a new and identical process the day after the filing.

According to João Tancredo, Chico’s lawyer, in this way the Justice is obliged to proceed with the case immediately, in a matter of a week, when considering an urgent guardianship. In this new stage of the action, which should take place on the 7th of December, the defense will place new evidence of authorship of the music, such as manuscripts and disc covers.

“In the existing action, with the judge’s decision [Monica Ribeiro Teixeira, do 6º Juizado Especial Cível da Comarca da Capital Lagoa], we would have to file an appeal against the decision, so they would have to summon Eduardo to speak. This would all take six months and then to judge another three months. That is, almost a year and it’s been standing still. We decided to let this one die to enter a new one the next day”, reveals the lawyer.

In this new process, the defense will also add documentation that proves that ECAD (Central Office for Collection and Distribution) transferred funds referring to the authorship of the song to Chico Buarque due to the execution of “Roda Viva”.

Chico asks for the equivalent of R$ 48,000 from Eduardo Bolsonaro for using the song on his social networks in a publication that criticized an alleged censorship that supporters of his father, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), would be suffering in Brazil.

“Ignoring the authorship of Chico’s work made him very angry. He felt offended. The use of music on the deputy’s networks associates Chico with fascism, weapons, everything he abhors”, concludes lawyer João Tancredo.
