Under the new law, anyone who spreads information deemed to be an attempt to promote homosexuality online or in films, books or advertisements can face heavy fines
The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed today, Monday, the law by which restrictions on what the Kremlin calls “LGBTQ propaganda” are being expanded; effectively making any public expression of that behavior or lifestyle illegal in the country.
Under the new law, anyone who spreads information deemed to be an attempt to promote homosexuality online or in films, books or advertisements can be heavily fined. This law is an extension of the previous one that prohibited homosexual “propaganda” to children. Authorities were already using it to ban “pride parades” or arrest gay rights activists.
Human rights groups say the new law aims to completely marginalize the so-called “non-traditional” lifestyles of gay, bisexual and transgender people.
