Kremlin: “There are no prospects for peace talks right now” on Ukraine

“We agree that the outcome of what is happening must be a just, long-term peace. But as for the prospects of any negotiations, we don’t see them at the moment,” Peskov said.

“A just, long-term peace” should be the outcome of the war in Ukraine, a Kremlin spokesman said on TuesdayDmitry Peskov told reporters he agreed with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s comments about the need for lasting peace in Ukraine, but stressed that Moscow “does not see the prospect of talks at this time” and the situation will probably be settled through negotiations.

“We agree that the outcome of what is happening must be a just, long-term peace. But as for the prospects of any negotiation, we don’t see them at the moment,” he said.

“At some point this will end and it will almost certainly end with diplomacy, with a negotiation. But what I think we need to see is a just and lasting peace, not a false peace,” Blinken said at the WSJ CEO Council Summit in Washington on Monday.

Last week, US President Joe Biden said he was willing to talk to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin if there was genuine interest in ending the conflict in Ukraine. However, Russia is unwilling to fully withdraw from Ukraine as part of any future talks to end its “special military operation”.
