Blood packs sent to Ukrainian embassies depart from Tesla store

by

The gruesome packages sent to Ukrainian embassies in 15 countries had the address of a Tesla dealership in Germany, Kiev said on Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the eastern European country, the boxes were sent from post offices without a camera system, which makes it difficult to find the person responsible for the shipments.

The packages, according to Ukrainian minister Dmitro Kuleba, are part of a “campaign of terror against Ukrainian diplomats”. “All envelopes have the same return address: the Tesla car dealership in the German town of Sindelfingen,” he wrote on his Facebook account.

According to the Ukrainian, the senders also left no traces of their DNA on the boxes and envelopes. “This, in particular, indicates the professional level of execution,” he added.

On Friday (2), the Ukrainian embassy in Spain received a bloody package with animal eyes. According to a spokesman for Ukrainian diplomacy, 31 similar boxes were sent to representations in other countries, such as Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic and Romania.

Two days earlier, a security officer at the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid was injured after opening a letter bomb addressed to the head of the diplomatic post. After the incident, Kuleba ordered all embassies in the country to urgently tighten security.

At the same time, Spanish police defused bombs sent to others, including Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. It is uncertain whether the envelopes also bore the address of Tesla’s dealership – last week, officials said evidence suggested the explosives were posted by a sender from within Spain.

German authorities and Tesla’s dealership in Sindelfingen, in southern Germany, did not respond to queries from the Reuters news agency.

In October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk came under fire in Ukraine for hinting at a possible peace deal to end the war. At the time, the billionaire proposed that the Crimea annexed in 2014 should be Russian as it constitutes a historic area of Moscow. For him, new referendums there and in the regions now annexed by Moscow should be held under UN supervision to define their fate.

In addition, Musk’s proposal defines that Ukraine declares itself neutral, a Russian demand since the beginning of the conflict, aiming to avoid NATO and the European Union in its largest western border. “Russia has three times the population of Ukraine, so Ukraine’s victory is unlikely in case of all-out war. If you care about Ukraine’s population, seek peace,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

In the same month, Musk also caused alarm in Kiev when he said that his rocket company SpaceX could not indefinitely fund its internet service in Ukraine. The technology helps the country’s civilians and military stay online during the war with Russia. After the backlash, however, Musk changed his mind a day later.
