The case of funding and bribery against four people from a Gulf state to influence decisions of the European Parliament is “very worrying”, the EU’s foreign policy chief said on Monday Joseph Borel.
“Certainly the news is very, very worrying,” Borrell told reporters.
Borrell clarified that the investigation does not target any member of the EU diplomatic service.
“There is nothing and no report against anyone from the Foreign Service or the delegations,” he said.

Prosecutors said they had suspected for months that a Gulf state was trying to influence decision-making centers in Brussels.
A Qatari official has denied any accusations.
