A sixteen-year-old girl was shot dead by Israeli soldiers

A Palestinian teenager was killed last night during an Israeli army raid in Jenin, a sector of the occupied West Bank that has been at the center of violence in recent months, the Palestinian health ministry said.

Jaina Zakarna, 16 years oldwas hit by a bullet in the head during the clashes that broke out during the raid, according to the ministry.

According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the teenager was on the roof of her house, in the neighborhood where the Israeli army raid took place, and was found dead after the withdrawal of the Israeli forces.

Three other Palestinians were wounded in the same raid, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it was aware of the teenager’s death and that “the incident is being investigated.”

Conflicts between between Israeli forces and armed Palestinians broke out during the army raid, during which “three individuals wanted on suspicion of being involved in terrorist activities” were arrested, the statement said.

“During the operation, the suspects threw explosives and opened fire on the soldiers. The soldiers responded with live fire in the direction of the armed suspects,” the military added.

Jenin, which is considered a stronghold of armed Palestinian factions, is a regular target of Israeli army raids.

More than 40 Palestinians have been killed during Israeli operations this year in the Jenin sector alone. They include many fighters, but also the journalist Shireen Abu Akleh of the Al Jazeera channel.

A total of at least 150 Palestinians and 26 Israelis have been killed since the beginning of the year in the occupied West Bank, Israel and Jerusalem. Israel has also occupied East Jerusalem since 1967.
