Two police officers – a man and a woman – and another person have been shot dead on a remote property in Queensland, Australia. Officers went to the area following reports of a missing person in Wieambilla – 270 kilometers (168 miles) west of Brisbane.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said four officers attended the remote property.
Of the two surviving officers, one was grazed by a bullet, while the other managed to flee the property. Both are being treated in hospital.

Ms Carroll said the attackers had not yet been caught and that the police operation involved PolAir – which provides air support to police – and special forces.
He added it was the biggest loss the area had suffered in a single incident in recent years, paying tribute to police officers who “made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our community safe”.
Mark Ryan, Queensland’s police minister, also spoke at the news conference, describing the incident as a “traumatic and devastating event for our community”.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it was a “heartbreaking day for the families and friends” of Queensland police officers who died in the line of duty.
