Ambassador Mauro Vieira, future Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced this Wednesday (14) that the first international trips of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after assuming the Presidency will be to China, Argentina and the United States.
Vieira also informed that relations with Venezuela commanded by the dictator Nicolás Maduro will be reestablished on the first day of the Lula government.
Vieira gave an interview to journalists at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, headquarters of the transition office. The future chancellor announced that he had already received some guidelines from Lula for the first days of his government, in particular the “reconstruction of bridges” with the countries of South America.
Afterwards, when questioned, he said that the reestablishment of relations with the Maduro regime will happen right at the beginning of the government.
“With regard to Venezuela, President [Lula] he also instructed me to reestablish relations with Venezuela, which we will do from the 1st, initially sending a chargé d’affaires to occupy the buildings we have there, residence, chancellery and reopen the embassy and, later, we will indicate an ambassador to the Venezuelan government,” said Vieira, who then made it clear that he was referring to the Maduro regime and not the opposition Juan Guaidó.
🇧🇷[Abriremos] embassy next to the government that is in, the government that was elected, that is there, is the government of President Maduro,” he added.
