The 11-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” fan, Corey he underwent two unsuccessful heart transplants and is now determined not to face the ordeal of a third.
He and his family don’t know how much time he has left in life, so one of Cory’s last wishes was to speak to his idol, “Captain Jack” and the actor, as we are used to him, responded immediately.
Corey recently created a YouTube channel, “Kraken the Box”, which already has more than 160,000 subscribers.
Dressed in his famous pirate gear, Depp followed the YouTube channel and recorded a message exclusively for Corey saying: “I wish you good luck. I’m your number one fan, Captain – Corey. All my respect and love to you my friend.“
Additionally, Depp said he would also encourage his friends to follow Corey’s YouTube channel, which already includes the Hollywood star and wrestler among its subscribers. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Cory’s mother said the message, organized through charity Make A Wish, was “amazing” and had lifted her son’s spirits during what has been a painful time for the family.
Corey, who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, had a transplant in 2018, but the organ was rejected. He underwent a second transplant last January but after a traumatic and painful operation, his body again refused the heart.
Now, after discussions with his parents and the medical team, he has decided not to proceed with a third operation. “There is no cure now. The first transplant wasn’t easy, but it went pretty well. The second was extremely traumatic for him. It was painful and tiring and he had to learn to walk and talk all over again. He said he would rather die than have to go through something like this again. It wasn’t just his decision, but the medical team’s as well.”
Cory’s decision means he is now in ‘palliative care’ and his family do not know how long he will live as they prepare to spend the last Christmasas the mother stated.
“Every meal we make for him, we don’t know if it will be his last. Every time we get him into bed, it might be the last time.
It’s devastating. I sobbed, I prayed, I got angry thinking why Cory had to go through all this, to finally pass away.”
Finally he added that “he is very positive and they are making the most of the time they have left”.
