Podcast: nominations for Itamaraty and Lula’s international travels

by

One of the main missions that the future Lula government (PT) will face in foreign policy is to restore Brazil’s international image, after successive crises led by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and allies.

During the Bolsonaro administration, Itamaraty became a refuge for the so-called ideological wing – with names aligned with the writer Olavo de Carvalho (1947-2022), as was the case with former Chancellor Ernesto Araújo.

Ambassador Mauro Vieira, appointed by the PT to head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced this Wednesday (14) the international trips that Lula should make at the beginning of his term, with the aim of establishing ties with other countries.

The first visit, still in January, will be to Argentina, with the aim of rebuilding bridges with neighbors in South America. In the first quarter of his administration, Lula should also visit China and the United States.

In this Friday’s (16th) episode, Café da Manhã talks to a reporter from Sheet Patricia Campos Mello. She explains in what situation Lula must meet the Itamaraty and discusses what the news about international travel and nominations for the portfolio indicate about the foreign policy of the new government.

The audio program is published on Spotify, streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the application, just register for free.

Breakfast is published from Monday to Friday, always at the beginning of the day. The episode is presented by journalists Angela Boldrini and Maurício Meireles, with production by Jéssica Maes and Victor Lacombe. Sound editing is by Thomé Granemann.
