Two members of the UN peacekeeping force in Mali (MINUSMA) – a man and a woman – were killed by gunfire in Timbuktu (north), the United Nations mission in the African country announced today via Twitter.
“Deeply shocked by the killing, this afternoon in Timbuktu, of two of our police officers – including a woman – while on patrol,” said El-Gassim Wane, head of MINUSMA.
But four members of the UN peacekeeping force were injured, one seriously.
The perpetrator of the attack fell dead during the exchange of fire, while a soldier accompanying the MINUSMA patrol was also killed.

H MINUSMAnumbering around 12,000 police and soldiers, is the UN force that has suffered the most losses recent years.
