Iran has faced a wave of protests since the death of 22-year-old Amini on September 16 after she was arrested in Tehran by morality police for not wearing her hijab properly.

The lawyer of two Iranian journalists jailed for helping to publicize the death of Iranian-Kurdish Mahsha Amini has been arrested amid protests in the country, a reformist media outlet said today.

“Mohammed Ali Kamfirouzi, the lawyer of many activists and journalists, was arrested on Wednesday,” Ham Mihan newspaper reported.

Iran has been facing a wave of protests since the death of 22-year-old Amini on September 16 after she was arrested in Tehran by morality police for not wearing her hijab properly.

Kamfirouzi is the lawyer for 35-year-old Elaeh Mohammadi, a journalist for Ham Mihan, and 30-year-old Nilufar Hamedi, a photographer for the Shargh newspaper, who have been detained since September.

The Judiciary charged them in November with “propaganda against the system” and “conspiracy against national security” for their involvement in the Amini case.

The lawyer “has not received any summons, he is being detained illegally and the reason for his arrest remains unknown,” Mohammad Ali Bagherpour’s defense lawyer told Ham Mihan.

More than 300 Iranian journalists and photojournalists criticized the authorities in an open letter in late October for “arresting colleagues [τους] and deprived them of their rights’, in particular ‘access to their lawyers’.

On Thursday, Mohammad Kamfirouzi, the lawyer’s brother, announced that the judiciary was now “responsible for the life and health” of the lawyer.

According to Ham Meehan, “25 Iranian lawyers” have been “arrested across the country” since the protests began.
