Margareth Menezes played her first show, in Salvador, three days after accepting President-elect Lula’s invitation to be Minister of Culture during his administration. At home, she was received with celebration by her audience, who shouted “Minister! Minister!”. Margareth didn’t make anything resembling a speech, but a brief comment: “We’re going to need to make a chain to be able to do a good job in our ministry. You have to have courage.”
The first complaint came even before taking over the portfolio. According to an article published in Veja magazine this Friday (16), Margareth is accused of owing more than R$ 1 million to public coffers. Her advice denies amounts, but admits that the artist’s company is indebted to the Federal Revenue.
The singer’s presentation took place during the launch party for the block Os Mascarados 2023, at Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, in Pelourinho, in Salvador. Margareth is one of the founders of the group, created in the late 1990s and known for its role as a protagonist of the LGBTQIA+ public. The singer, although holding the position of minister, will continue commanding the block in 2023, not only on the Barra-Ondina Circuit, but also on the calendar that anticipates the party.
