The city of Kiev, capital of Ukraine, was once again attacked with drones this Monday (19), the day that also takes place a meeting between the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and his ally Aleksandr Lukachenko, dictator of Belarus, in Minsk.

Authorities issued warnings for residents to seek shelter, and at least four explosions were reported in the capital. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that urban infrastructure had been hit and that access to electricity was once again interrupted in some regions.

“Engineers are working to stabilize the supply of energy and heating as quickly as possible,” said he, who recently exchanged barbs with President Volodimir Zelensky. “There is damage.”

Putin’s trip to Belarus raised fears that the meeting with the allied dictatorship could strengthen ties and increase Belarusian participation in the Ukrainian War. This is the Russian leader’s first trip to Minsk since 2019, the year before intense protests in the region.

Before the meeting, the Russian Army announced that Moscow military will participate in tactical exercises in Belarus – in October, the countries will announce the formation of a joint force of thousands of soldiers.

Russia also announced that several warships will participate this week in joint training with the Chinese Navy, in yet another demonstration of the rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing, accelerated since the beginning of the war in Eastern Europe.
