The assailant was shot dead by the police
Five people were killed and one seriously injured when a gunman opened fire in an apartment building in Toronto, Canada.
Early Sunday night, police received reports of shots fired at the building in Vaughan, about 30 kilometers north of Toronto. The alarm was immediately raised and the authorities arrived on the spot and opened fire on the perpetrator, fatally wounding him.
Authorities are now investigating the gunman’s motive, including a possible relationship between the gunman and the victims.
York Police Chief Jim McSween said attending officers were confronted with a “terrible scene”, with several victims in different parts of the building.
In a tweet, Vaughan Mayor Stephen Del Duca expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
Although Canada has few mass shootings compared to the US, there has recently been an increase in gun violence that has led to recent gun ban legislation.
