The visit of the Ukrainian president to Bakhmut, in the Donbas province, seems to be the most risky of those he has made so far.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise visit today to Bakhmut, the city that the Russian army has been trying to capture for months and is the hottest point of the front in eastern Ukraine, his office announced.
Although Zelensky regularly travels to areas near the front line, his visit to Bakhmut, in the Donbass province, appears to be the riskiest he has made so far.

“He met with military personnel, talked with them and awarded medals to our soldiers,” the Ukrainian presidency said in a statement without elaborating.
“Zelensky in Bahamut. The bravest president of the bravest nation,” Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov commented on Telegram.
Since the summer the Russians have been trying to capture Bakhmut, once famous for its vineyards and salt flats, it had about 70,000 inhabitants before the war started in late February.
Fierce fighting has been raging around the city for the past few months. Russian troops have captured villages and areas outside Bakhmut, but Ukrainian forces appear to be in control of the town and part of its surroundings.
