The nine members of the committee yesterday voted unanimously to refer the former president to the Ministry of Justice
The former US president, Donald Trump, faces up to 40 years in prison for the four crimes that were imposed on him yesterday, Monday by the committee that investigated the January 6 riot in the Capitol.
Its nine members voted unanimously to impeach the former president to the Justice Department on charges of inciting or aiding insurrection, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit perjury and obstruction of official process. More specifically, Donald Trump could face
-up to 20 years in prison for obstructing official proceedings,
-up to five years for defrauding the United States,
-up to five years for false statement and
-up to ten years for inciting or aiding rebellion
“The committee believes there is sufficient evidence to impeach former President Trump for aiding or abetting those on Capitol Hill who participated in the violent attack,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Maryland, a member of the committee.
“The committee has substantial evidence that President Trump intended to disrupt the peaceful transition of our Constitution,” he said.
Trump has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and insists on allegations that he lost the 2020 presidential election due to fraud. He also criticized the commission’s work and called its members “political thugs.”
On Monday, he claimed he was a victim of Democrats who don’t want him to run for the White House again.
“People understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation, the DBI, wants to stop me from running for president because they know I’m going to win and that this whole impeachment thing is just like the impeachment was — a partisan effort to take me out and the Republican Party,” he wrote on the platform, Truth Social, calling the accusations “false.”
