A 36-year-old Romanian – who is wanted in Denmark for human trafficking, pimping and rape – was arrested in mid-December in France and a decision on his extradition is expected in Bucharest in the coming days, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported, citing judicial sources.

The Romanian was arrested on December 13 at a toll station near Biarritz (south-west) during a routine check, as he had just crossed the Spain-France border. Pursuant to a European arrest warrant issued on November 5, the 36-year-old was taken into custody.

The arrested man appeared before the Court of Appeal today and, according to judicial sources, “did not object” to his extradition to Denmark. The decision will be announced on December 23.

The 36-year-old is wanted by the Danish police on the charge of transporting Romanian women to Copenhagen and forcing them into prostitution. He is also accused of rape and physical violence, while at this stage of the investigation five of his victims have been identified.
