The American Senate officially approved, today Wednesday, with an overwhelming majority, her appointment Lynn Tracy to the post of US ambassador to Russia.

93 senators voted in favor of the appointment of President Biden’s choice, while two senators voted against.

Tracy, a career diplomat and current ambassador to Armenia, will become the first woman to serve as US ambassador to Russia.

The American diplomat is a “red flag” for Moscow regarding the positions of Kiev’s superpower in the Ukrainian one.

The Senate is asked to vote in favor of the budget

Meanwhile, US senators are scrambling to wrap up consideration of the $1.7 trillion federal budget today as a blizzard threatens to close roads and airports later this week, making travel to and from Washington difficult.

“The Senate has no reason to wait, instead there are many reasons to act quickly, before the blizzard makes travel dangerous for members (of Congress), staff and their families, just before the Christmas holidays.” emphasized Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Congress has a term of office until at midnight on Friday (early Saturday morning, Greek time) to approve the bill to avoid the paralysis of the federal state, the infamous shutdown. The senators hope that within days they will vote in favor of this text, which provides, among other things, the granting of 44.9 billion dollars to support Ukraine. The bill will then be sent to the House of Representatives for approval, likely tomorrow.
“We have to finish before Friday, when the funding for federal agencies runs out. We hope to get it done much sooner,” Schumer added.

The budget is the last major bill that Congress will consider as it is currently constituted. As of January, Republicans will control the House while the Senate will remain in Democratic hands.

House Republican leader and House Speaker candidate since January, Kevin McCarthy, called on the party to vote against the budget, saying it would be easier to negotiate in the new year. In fact, a group of young Republican lawmakers has threatened to block any future bill from Republican senators who vote in favor of the budget.

If the bill is not passed in time, the two parties may negotiate a temporary deal to extend funding for federal agencies well into January.
