The announcement of the deployment of the US Patriot air defense system to Ukraine consolidates further evidence that Washington is waging a proxy war in Eastern Europe, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday (22).
Speaking to journalists, the Russian said that sending the equipment, considered one of the most sophisticated systems against aircraft, does not contribute to resolving the Ukrainian War and will not prevent Moscow from achieving its objectives in the conflict, which has lasted more than 300 days.
“That doesn’t help to get an agreement, quite the opposite,” he said. Peskov said that the deployment of the system, announced during a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House this Wednesday (21), shows that the West is not concerned about negotiating with Russia.
The Ukrainian leader’s visit to the US was his first trip to another country since the start of the conflict in his country in February. The deployment of the Patriot system, which will still require training of Ukrainian troops to handle it, could change the course of the war in Eastern Europe.
