Afghanistan: UN-Taliban meeting to exclude women from NGOs

Hanif’s ministry on Saturday ordered all local as well as foreign non-governmental organizations not to allow their female staff to work until further notice.

The withdrawal of the decision banning the work of women in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is requested by the acting Minister of Economy of the administration of Talibanthe acting director of his mission UN in the Afghanistanaccording to an announcement today.

“Millions of Afghans are in need of humanitarian assistance, and the lifting of restrictions is important,” UNAMA said in a statement, adding that its acting director of humanitarian missions coordination Ramiz Alakbarovmet with the Minister of Economy Muhammad Hanif.

Hanif’s ministry on Saturday ordered all local as well as foreign non-governmental organizations not to allow their female staff to work until further notice. The orders do not directly apply to UN agencies in the country, but many of the international agency’s programs are implemented by non-governmental organizations affected by the implementation of the ban.
