“She was the one who called out the fire first, and that’s the sad part of the story,” said her partner’s father
A California woman was found dead early Christmas morning due to fire that broke out in the house he was in from the Christmas tree.
Destiny Abdrazack, 22, was celebrating Christmas Eve with her fiance’s family at their Northern Highlands home when a short circuit from the tree turned the house into a fiery inferno around 2am on Sunday.
Abdrazack shouted that there were flameswaking the other five in the home, which did not have working smoke alarms, according to her fiance’s father, Ernest Isom.
“She was the one who called out the fire first, and that’s the sad part of the story,” Isom said of the woman who was to become his future bride. “He saved our lives».
Abdrazack was pulled from the burning building by firefighters conscious, but died a short time later at an area hospital.
The five others in the house – her partner, his parents and two other adults – survived.
Isom said the family had fallen asleep without turning off the Christmas tree lights.
“Unfortunately, they wanted to keep the lights on until the last minute so we all fell asleep. It took us a while to realize what had happened so we only had a few seconds left to get out,” he told the station.
The fire origin has been traced to an artificial Christmas tree in the living room, and determined unintentional. Unfortunately there were no working smoke detectors in the home. pic.twitter.com/hgf0JHxunY
