Nelson de Sá: Argentine Clarín sees ‘Brazil under tension due to terrorist threat’

by

The frustrated attempt against Lula’s inauguration continues to be echoed by vehicles such as the Chinese Renmin Ribao or Diário do Povo, with the Xinhua agency, and the American CNN.

In the statements, respectively, “Police thwart bomb attack at airport” and “Police arrest man suspected of planting explosives in the capital before the presidential inauguration”.

Asian websites such as India Today and the South China Morning Post highlight, with Reuters, that the “call to arms by Jair Bolsonaro inspired the bomb plan in Brazil”.

In the French Le Monde, with the France Presse agency, the “Bolsonaro supporter” sought to “unleash chaos” in the country.

The Russian newspaper Izvestia adds that, in addition to the frustrated attack, the police “disarmed about 40 kilos of explosives found in a forest area near Brasília”, with a photo of bulletproof vests also at the scene.

For the Argentine Clarín (image above), “Brazil is under tension due to the terrorist threat” and, with that, Lula would not even use an open car at the inauguration ceremony, as he had done previously.

In the Mexican Reforma, “Brazil raises security for Lula’s inauguration”, also the call of financial Bloomberg.

GERMAN PARTNERSHIP

An article in the Berlin Der Tagesspiegel states, in the title: “Lula takes office on January 1st. Germany has a partner in Brazil again”. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will be inaugurated in Brasilia and “would like to announce a new phase in the strategic partnership”.

Among other points, “Germany can learn from Brazil to deal with anti-democratic movements, because what is reality in Brazil today may be reserved for Germany tomorrow.”

CONTRARY WINDS

In the Financial Times, “Brazil faces economic difficulties as Lula prepares to take office”. Among the “gloomy outlook”, it lists “high interest rates, fiscal uncertainty and the broader global slowdown”.

“The economy is having to digest a series of interest rate increases with the objective of taming inflation. The current level of 13.75% limits consumption and investment”, he assesses. “The economy is also hampered by structural inefficiencies, low wages and the trend towards deindustrialization.”

TORTURE, AGAIN

In a financial crisis, the Washington Post still produces critical journalism, now rare in the US, such as the report on the former prime minister of Iraq, sponsored by the White House, who tortured opponents in 2021 (image above). According to the newspaper, “American forces would be aware of what was happening at the airport in Baghdad”.

In the background, the Axios website reports that Michael Bloomberg, the media magnate who tried to be the Democratic candidate for president, “buys the Washington Post if Jeff Bezos is interested in selling”.
