Former First Lady has opened up about the struggles she faced in her marriage in the early years – before Obama even became US president and while their children were still young
Michelle Obama recently gave a more… personal interview – confession, on the occasion of the release of her new book “The light within us”.
Speaking to Revolt TV, a guest on a show about the power of women, the former First Lady spoke about the difficulties she faced in her marriage to Barack Obama in the early years – before he even became president of the USA and while their children were still young .
At some point, Michelle Obama reached that point in the relationship where you feel like you just can’t stand the other person.
As she revealed, “for 10 years I couldn’t stand my husband and you know when it happened? When the kids were young and while we were trying to build our careers and share the chores.
Marriage is not 50/50, ever. There are times when I’m in 70, he’s 30. There are times when he’s 60% in and I’m 40%. But guess what: I wouldn’t put 10 bad years over 30 good ones…it’s a matter of how you look at it.”

The former first lady even gave relationship advice to the other two single interview guests.
“You have to know yourself before you can know who you want to be in a relationship with. People want to be married and want a partner without knowing themselves first. Are you ready for a partner? Are you ready for the compromise, sacrifice and challenge of marriage? And if you are, then you need to think about who you’d like to be with.”
