Irina Karamanos, girlfriend of the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, formalized, this Thursday (29), her resignation from the position of sociocultural coordinator of the Presidency, assumed in March. With that, she will also cease to fulfill official duties as the country’s first lady.
The position of first lady is not regulated in Chile and does not receive remuneration.
The six social foundations under the Sociocultural Coordination of the Presidency will be in charge of those chosen to preside over each of the councils.
“I will continue to support the government, I will continue to support the president, my partner Gabriel Boric, and I will intensify my militancy in my party and also develop myself professionally in my field,” said Karamanos.
A 33-year-old social scientist, she has been in a relationship with the current president since 2019.
Of Greek and German descent, she studied at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and is a member of the Feminist Front of the ruling Social Convergence party.
