Corona virus: New measures in Malaysia and South Korea for travelers from China

by

Malaysia will screen all travelers, including those from China, for fever, while South Korea will require tests for travelers from China

Malaysia’s health ministry announced today that all travelers arriving by air in the country will be temperature-checked to see if they have a fever, and sewage from aircraft toilets arriving at its airports from China will also be tested, as part of new measures to prevent outbreak of the new coronavirus pandemic after the end of the “zero COVID” policy that Beijing suddenly proceeded with at the beginning of the month.

Travelers with a fever will be tested for SARS-CoV-2. The effluent will be tested for the presence of any new variants or sub-variants of the virus.

Health Minister Zaliha Mustafa did not specify when the new measures will take effect.

South Korea has announced that from January 5 it will be mandatory for travelers from China to have undergone a PCR test no later than 48 hours before their departure or an antigen test within 24 hours. Also, as early as January 2, they will undergo a PCR, that is, a molecular test, upon their arrival.

Visas will also be short-term, while aircraft from China will only arrive at Incheon International Airport. The measures are expected to last until February, but an extension of their validity is not excluded.

Several countries, including the US, Japan and Italy, have already taken similar measures.
