Three of his patients received a New Year’s gift of life Corneal Transplant Center of the Papageorgiou Hospital of Thessaloniki, who underwent transplants, shortly before the expiration of 2022, while the same joy awaits, in the following days, two other patients.
Specifically, last Wednesday (December 28), three corneal transplants; were successfully performed on three men aged 68, 77 and 79 years, with severe vision problems. Donors were a 74-year-old, a 52-year-old and a 63-year-old, respectively.
Another two people will receive corneal transplants from two donors aged 49 and 76 who died recently and whose families decided to donate their organs.
In a post by the Papageorgiou Hospital on social media, the transplant team of the Hospital, led by the director of the Second University Ophthalmology Clinic and the Corneal Transplant Center Nikolaos Ziakas, expresses its deep and sincere thanks to the families of the donors, as well as the wish everyone’s goal is to “increase the supply of transplants so that more transplants are performed and to generously share hope with patients suffering from serious eye diseases.”
It is noted that on the waiting list of Papageorgiou Hospital there are more than 150 patients, a fact that demonstrates the importance of organ donation.
