At least one person has been killed in a barrage of Russian attacks on New Year’s Eve today in Ukraine, including Kiev.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said one person died in the Solomyansk region. Also, at least three women have been taken to hospital.

A hotel and a detached house were targeted by Russian missile attacks, according to the deputy head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Kirill Tymoshenko.

According to reports, after the warning sirens sounded, ten explosions were heard.

According to Vitali Klitschko other areas affected by the Russian attacks are Pechersk and Holosiivsk, in the central and western edge of the city. According to the Kyiv Independent, the cities of Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia as well as the Kharkiv region were also targeted.

As sirens sound, many areas cut power as a precaution.

“Due to the threat of a missile attack, [ο κρατικός διαχειριστής ηλεκτρικού δικτύου της Ουκρανίας] Ukrenergo is taking measures to temporarily limit the supply of electricity. This is necessary to reduce the load on the electricity system in the event that our infrastructure is hit,” Odesa Region Governor Maksym Marchenko said via Telegram.
