War in Ukraine: Russia’s ambassador to the US accuses Washington of prolonging the conflict

by

Recent US moves clearly show it has no intention of pursuing a political solution to end the armed conflict in Ukraine, Antonov said.

The Russian ambassador to the US capital yesterday accused the administration of President Joe Biden of not having the slightest intention of helping to end the war in Ukraine, which began with the invasion of the Russian army on February 24, 2022, reacting to the announcement that the US would supply the Ukrainian armed forces with armored fighting vehicles (AVM).

Recent moves by the US clearly show that it has no intention of pursuing a political solution to end the armed conflict in Ukraine, Anatoly Antonov said, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

“There should be no doubt as to who is responsible for prolonging the conflict,” the diplomat said.

He made the comments hours after the US and German governments announced they would supply the Ukrainian armed forces respectively with Bradleys and Marders — the first Western-made armored fighting vehicles they will ever receive — while earlier this week the French government announced how it sends armored reconnaissance vehicles equipped with powerful cannons, characterized as “light tanks”.

For Russian Ambassador Antonov, the weapons delivered to Kyiv are anything but “defensive in nature,” as Western governments say. The US administration’s decision to send Bradley confirms “that the US was not going to listen to the Russian side’s repeated pleas to consider the potential complications of the very dangerous course” they are taking, he insisted.
