Mr Borel discussed with the Moroccan head of government and the Minister of Foreign Affairs the ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption against members of the European Parliament
The EU High Representative sent a message of “zero tolerance” to corruption, Joseph Borel in the shadow of Qatargate during his visit to Morocco on 5 and 6 January.
According to the European External Action Service’s announcement, Mr Borel discussed with the Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Achanous and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita about the ongoing investigation into corruption allegations against members of the European Parliament, for which have requested the removal of their parliamentary immunity.
He reiterated the position of the European Union, according to which there can be no impunity for corruption. Pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations by the judicial authorities, Josep Borrell said that everyone’s full cooperation in this investigation is expected.
“The position of the European Union is clear: there can be no impunity for corruption, zero tolerance for it. We must await the outcome of the ongoing investigations by the judicial authorities that should clarify these facts, and we expect everyone’s full cooperation in this investigation,” he noted.
