Dimitris Manzos: “There should be serious information about the Parthenon Sculptures”

The return of the Parthenon Sculptures “cannot be the subject of a partisan confrontation, said the press representative of PASOK-Movement of Change

The issue of claiming the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece was commented on by PASOK-Movement for Change spokesperson Dimitris Manzos speaking to the OPEN television station. In particular, he emphasized, based on the relevant information from the press office, that “sobriety and composure are needed. No haste, but neither indifference and sloppiness.”

He particularly emphasized the value of the unity of the political forces, clarifying that the issue “cannot be the subject of Woe and woe if even this is handed over to the pre-election petty factional dialogue”. While he recalled the “deep imprint of Melina Merkouris and PASOK on the national claim and this must be highlighted as clearly as possible”.

The press representative of PASOK-Movement of Change also underlined that “there are channels of communication and they must remain open through the Parliament but also through the daily osmosis of the political forces. We cannot rely on publications even by reputable journalistic houses. There should be a serious public debate without secrets or hidden points.”

He pointed out, at the same time, that the concept of loan must be completely excluded because “even legally, a loan is not understood without prior recognition of the ownership of the one who lends”.

Regarding the economy, then D. Manzos noted that “the hyperinflation of profits intensifies with the increases in the retail price of products, with the increases in energy and with increases even in the margin of the lending rate in relation to the deposit rate of banks”.

After all, he added, “for many months now, we have proposed measures for tax justice, with a reduction of indirect taxes while the crisis lasts and a progressive increase of direct taxes where appropriate. Market regulation with a ceiling on the retail price of electricity and effective controls with the imposition and collection of fines. And finally, boosting the purchasing power of citizens with a real increase in the minimum wage that will respond to inflationary pressures and by restoring collective bargaining in labor relations. This is social democracy for us, this is progressive politics”, he underlined.

Asked about the scenarios for the date of the elections, Dimitris Manzos noted that “we are not responsible for this. However, we believe that in essence we have already entered the final stretch. For us, it is not important when the elections will be held, but how we will go about them. We want a political confrontation, not a toxic one.”
