Confidential documents from the period in which the President of the United States, Joe Biden, was vice president of Barack Obama were found in an office that belonged to him in Washington, said this Monday (9) a White House lawyer.
The revelation came as former President Donald Trump is being investigated for storing classified White House materials on his Florida property. Last year, agents of the FBI, the American federal police, carried out a search operation that seized documents at the resort of Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, which belongs to the republican.
According to the American network CBS News, almost ten documents were found in the office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. The contents of the materials were not disclosed.
The classified material was located by Biden’s personal lawyers in November, the day before the midterm elections, said Richard Sauber, the president’s special adviser. He said Biden periodically used the space from 2017 until the start of his presidential campaign in 2020.
The documents were sent to the Department of Justice for review. In a statement, the White House said it was cooperating with the investigation.
