Russian and Wagner forces are likely to control most of the small town of Solendar in eastern Ukraine after regular advances over the past four days, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said today, updating intelligence from its agencies.
Officials in Kyiv have said Moscow has stepped up its offensive on Solentar, in the industrial region of Donbass, forcing Ukrainian troops to repel waves of attacks by Wagner’s mercenary militia around that city and neighboring fronts.
Soledar is a few miles from Bakhmut, where troops from both sides have suffered heavy casualties in trench fighting that has been among the fiercest since Russia invaded Ukraine nearly 11 months ago.
“The Russian axis in Solentar is likely an attempt to block Bakhmut from the north and cut Ukrainian lines of communication,” the British Ministry of Defense added.
