Eddie Murphy stole the show at the Golden Globes on Tuesday night, citing Will Smith’s infamous Oscar meltdown.
The “Beverly Hills Cop” legend was honored with the award Cecil B. DeMille for “outstanding contribution to the world of entertainment” and upset the guests when he ended his speech with a joke about Smith.
After giving a somewhat restrained speech about his career, which spans nearly four decades, the comedian concluded by saying “I have some success tips for young actors.”
“I want to let you know that there is a plan you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind,” Murphy said. “I followed this plan throughout my career. It’s very simple, it’s three things. You just do these three things: Pay your taxes. Mind your own business… And keep the name of Will Smith’s wife out of your mouth!”
Murphy raised his voice as he delivered his final piece of advice, mimicking Smith’s onstage rage that overshadowed last year’s Academy Awards.
