The White House has confirmed that Jill Biden was scheduled to have outpatient surgery known as ‘Mohs’ surgery

Accompanied by her husband Joe Biden, the First Lady boarded the presidential helicopter Marine One to go to Walter Reed Military Hospital, near Washington.

The White House has confirmed that Jill Biden was scheduled for outpatient surgery known as Mohs surgery.”

This type of operation is performed under local anesthesia and is considered highly effective, if performed early enough, in eliminating the formation of a skin cancer.

The presidential doctor Kevin O’Connor had announced on January 4 that a small lesion above the First Lady’s eye had been found “during a routine examination for skin cancer”.

“As a precaution, doctors have recommended that this lesion be removed,” the doctor wrote in a letter released by the First Lady’s spokeswoman, Vanessa Valdivia.

The tissues that are removed will be analyzed afterwards,” he clarified.

Jill Biden, 71, is the oldest First Lady in US history, and her 80-year-old husband is also the oldest occupant of the White House.

Cancer is a personal issue for the US president, whose son died in 2015 of brain cancer. For Biden, reducing the death rate from this disease is a “presidential priority”.
