The death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court, according to Nournews, a news agency affiliated with Iran’s state security directorate.

British-Iranian Alireza Akbari was arrested in 2019. Maryam Akbari told the BBC today that a prison officer had invited her to visit her husband in a Tehran prison “one last time”, making it clear that his execution is a matter of days.

A spokesman for the British Foreign Ministry assured that “his immediate release is a priority and we have again requested that he be allowed to communicate with the consular authority”.
