Italy: Gas station owners announce a strike after a series of increases in fuel

by

“While favoring tax evaders, the government causes fuel price increases and puts the blame on the station owners,” say Italian petrol station owners

Italian petrol station owners have decided to call a strike for January 25 and 26 and underline that “the mudslinging against a category of honest workers must end and the truth must be restored”.

The Italian gas sellers do not agree, at the same time, with the decision of the Meloni government which imposes on them the mandatory posting of the average price of fuel, on a daily basis, in all the country’s gas stations, as well as with the imposition of a “ceiling” on the gas stations located in highways.

“These are measures that do not aim to hit the owners of the gas stations, but only to be able to identify the few who act in a cunning way,” said the Italian Prime Minister. The Italian owners of petrol stations, however, respond that at this stage, “while tax evaders are favored, the government causes an increase in the price of fuel and puts the responsibility on the station owners”.
