Meloni: I will meet Zelensky to tell him that Italy is on his side

We are not stopping our contribution, with the aim of reaching the end of the war, said the head of the Italian government.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in an interview broadcast this evening by Rai public television, addressed the main issues of domestic and international current affairs.

“I will meet (Ukrainian) President Volodymyr Zelensky soon to tell him that Italy is on his side. And how, even though it may seem like we’re on the brink, I’d like to talk to him about the future and rebuilding. We are not stopping our contribution, with the aim of reaching an end to the war,” said the head of the Italian government.

“The bigger picture is difficult, we certainly weren’t lucky, but I’ve always believed that fate challenges you to test your abilities. What scares me the most is the possibility that I may not be able to effectively send the message to our citizens that the government is moving forward with determination, holding its head high and not losing a moment, with the awareness that the country can recover, despite difficulties, but with everyone’s contribution,” added Georgia Meloni.

Referring to the general economic situation, the Italian Prime Minister underlined: “we are working to prioritize growth because, in order to meet expectations, we must create wealth that can be redistributed. Otherwise, poverty is redistributed. With the government budget, we protected households from the cost of gas and electricity bills, and then we had €10 billion and two choices: cut fuel taxes for everyone, and for the rich, or focus on cutting taxes paid by workers, tax breaks for new hires and support for families raising children. We chose the second option because we believe it produces more wealth.”

Asked about the increase in the price of fuel and the strike announced by the owners of gas stations for January 25 and 26, Georgia Meloni replied: “the government will meet them tomorrow and tell them again that they do not want to pass any responsibility on them. On the contrary, we believe that the great majority of gas sellers behave with a great sense of responsibility. For their own protection, any cases that are not characterized by the same, responsible behavior must be identified.”
