Davos Forum announces presence of Olena Zelenska in prime time

by

The World Economic Forum confirmed this Monday (16) the participation of the president of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelensky, and the first lady, Olena Zelenska, in the annual meeting of the organization in Davos.

Both will speak in the main plenary of the event, something unprecedented: Zelenska this Tuesday morning (17), right after the opening by the founder of the forum, Klaus Schwab —the noblest moment of the meeting. She landed in Switzerland this Monday.

Zelensky, for his part, will speak late Wednesday afternoon via a live link from Kiev, as he did last year.

The organization had been keeping suspense on the Zelenskys’ participation. In the festival program, at Zelenska time, only a “special message” was announced, without saying from whom. Only this Monday night (late in Brazil) the name was revealed. The president’s speech was not included in the program until then.

Since the outbreak of the Ukrainian War last February, the forum has taken the conflict as one of its central agendas. In the event of 2022, the war and the fear of its consequences overshadowed the other debates.

Russia, which used to send a large delegation, also ended up, in practice, banned from the meeting — not only authorities, but also businessmen.

This year, global recession fears occupy most of the agenda. War, however, continues to be a dominant issue, mainly because of its economic consequences.
