He is “charged with conspiracy” and “paying four other men to shoot at the homes of four Democratic politicians,” Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina tweeted.
According to CBS News, Pena has been remanded in custody after being arrested at his home in the southwest part of the city.
There were no injuries from the incidents, which took place between December 4 and January 3.
On January 3, bullets hit the home of Senator Linda Lopez, with three going through the window of her 10-year-old daughter’s room.
In this incident, the police found evidence that Pena himself “pulled the trigger of one of the weapons that was used.”
As NBC News reported, Gilbert Gallegos, a police spokesman, said Pena believed he lost the November election due to fraud.
