Olena Zelenska scolds Davos billionaires for failing to use their influence and calls for more aid to Ukraine
Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska took aim at the billionaires during her speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, calling for more aid to her country.
Olena Zelenska accused billionaires of not doing enough to prevent a “full-scale, global crisis”. He also warned that Russia’s war will spread and in other countries, as “it was never intended to be limited to the Ukrainian borders”, and he emphasized that “unity is what restores peace”.
“You all are united by the fact that you really have a lot of influence. But there is also something that divides you – and that is that not all of you use this influence, or sometimes you use it in a way that is even more divisive,” Zelenska said.
He noted that Russia’s war in Ukraine means that “We are facing the collapse of the world as we know it, in the way we are used to it or the one we aspire to have. What might life be like in a world where tanks are allowed to hit nuclear power plants? What will happen to inflation when national borders begin to crumble and the integrity of countries is trampled upon by those who want it? What will happen to the cost of living when millions – not millions but tens of millions – of people will be forced to leave mass starvation and become refugees” asked the First Lady of Ukraine during her speech and continued:
“How does the world want to achieve climate neutrality, if so far it hasn’t even stopped the burning of entire cities in Ukraine. This is what Russia is doing with its artillery, with its missiles, with its Iranian drones, and you know that Russian aggression was never intended to be limited to the Ukrainian border. This war can go further and widen the crisis if the aggressor does not lose.”
As he pointed out, “in Ukraine there is no place that is completely safe. Teary-eyed parents watch as doctors try to save their children, farmers are afraid to return to their fields because of landmines, and we cannot allow another Chernobyl to happen.”
“You can’t take a day off from war. Every day everyone lives in a constant state of risk. Russia is not stopping anywhere,” he said.
She also noted that her husband Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a ten-point plan to world leaders to help Ukraine defeat Russia and offset their aggression.
Those attending Davos are facing global controversies, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine one of their main topics of discussion.
