Uzbekistan’s President Savkat Mirziyoyev has slammed the country’s energy security officials and sacked three top officials

Significant deficiencies concerning the supply of natural gas are observed in Uzbekistan after the neighbor’s decision Turkmenistan to suspend natural gas exports due to the bitter cold.

For its part, the government of Uzbekistan suspended electricity exports in order to ensure energy resources to meet domestic demand. Uzbekistan often faces energy shortages.

Yesterday Monday, Turkmenistan completely suspended natural gas exports to Uzbekistan and 20% of electricity exports due to the very low temperatures prevailing in the country.

The president of Uzbekistan Savkat Mirziyoyev strongly criticized the country’s energy security officials and expelled three top officials, Interfax reported.

Last month, Uzbekistan signed an agreement with Turkmenistan to import an additional 1.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas this winter, Reuters reports.

Uzbekistan produces approx 52 bcm of natural gas per year, but imports almost 15 million cubic meters daily.
