Opinion – Lúcia Guimarães: Republican McCarthy gave the keys to the asylum to lunatics in the Chamber

by

Republican Representative: “With the floor, Your Excellency, the representative of the state of Georgia.”

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Thank you. It is a pleasure to participate in the first session of the Committee on Homeland Security since Nancy Pelosi’s Gaspacho police lost control of the House.”

Republican Deputy: “Does His Excellency mean the Nazi Gestapo police?”

Congresswoman MTG: “Let’s get to the point. On the agenda today, the ongoing floods in California. If, before, the Rothschilds and the Jewish cabal fired space lasers to set fire to forests and open the way for a new railroad, it is now urgent to determine the interests behind these floods. Because floods are bad and we know that warming the planet will be beneficial”.

Democratic Deputy: “I request that the text in which the Deputy presents her theory on the Jewish conspiracy to burn the forests of California be filed in the file”.

The words above weren’t penned by comedy writers, and while that didn’t happen, it’s only a matter of time before a variation on the dialogue becomes a reality.

The new Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, has already given the keys to the asylum to a handful of lunatics. Taylor Greene, to this day, was the most visible propagator of QAnon conspiracies such as “Obama is Muslim” and “no planes crashed into the Pentagon in the 9/11 attacks”.

Another colleague of the deputy on the Committee on Homeland Security, who, like her, was banned from accessing any committee in the last legislature, for inciting violence against Democratic deputies, is dentist Paul Gosar, whose idea of protecting national security is to immediately pardon to the nearly thousand indicted for the terrorist attack on the Capitol in 2021. “It would just be a good start”, explained the Arizona legislator.

The special committees of the American House and Senate have different weights on the destiny of the country. A concern expressed even by Republicans, at the beginning of this legislative period, is whether leader McCarthy would have the courage to freeze the access of the fake George Santos to any of the committees and to privileged information. One must suffer from incorrigible optimism to use the word “courage” in any reference to Kevin McCarthy.

Santos, the son of Brazilians who invented almost his entire curriculum and has a preventive prison decreed in Niterói for embezzlement, won not just one, but two seats on committees. He will join the Small Business Committee, responsible for overseeing one of the government’s biggest initiatives, the Wage Protection Program, estimated at nearly $ 1 trillion, created at the beginning of the Covid pandemic.

Santos specializes in protecting his own pay when unemployed, even if that means pawning friends’ jewelry, stealing a cell phone and keeping funds collected from acquaintances to pay for his own mother’s funeral, as happened in 2016.

The second is the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, in which the Republican representative for New York will be able to explore the mysterious lasers discovered by his new best friend, Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Until 2015, only 12% of Republicans admitted that they would vote for someone who lied to cover up bad behavior. Now, after Donald Trump, 55% of Republican voters say they are okay with electing a liar. George Santos is the representative these voters deserve.
