Pompeo: Trump told me to… ‘fuck off for a while’ on China’s stance on COVID

“Mike, this f…guy hates you!” Trump exclaimed after the call with Xi, according to Pompeo, who was listening to the conversation

The former foreign minister Mike Pompeo claims in his revealing memoir that the former president Donald Trump told him to… “shut the hell up for a while” when he mentioned that China is hiding information about the COVID 19 pandemic – as Chinese President Xi Jinping made it clear to Trump that it is a “ disturbing subject”.

Pompeo writes that Xi was furious for criticizing Beijing for lack of transparency regarding COVID at a State Department press conference on March 25, 2020, and asked Trump, during a call on March 26, to shut him up.

The Chinese leader told Trump that Pompeo was jeopardizing the “phase one” trade deal the two leaders had agreed to in January, according to the Semafor news website, which has a copy of Pompeo’s book “Never Give An Inch” ahead of its official release on January 24th.

“Mike, this f…guy hates you!” Trump exclaimed after the call with Xi, according to Pompeo, who was listening to the conversation.

Days later, Trump reportedly told Pompeo that “you’re putting us all at risk” by upsetting Xi because the US needed personal protective equipment from China.

“Stop, for God’s sake!” Trump is reported to have said, adding emphatically “fuck off for a while” as a warning.

Pompeo says he “honored” Trump’s request and that “we needed medical equipment and we were at the mercy of the CCP [Κινεζικό Κομμουνιστικό Κόμμα] therefore… and I would wait for my moment.’
