Investigators find new batch of classified documents at Biden’s home

by

US Department of Justice investigators found a new batch of classified documents at President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, a lawyer for the president announced this Saturday (21).

Six classified papers were found, some from the period in which Biden served as a senator and others from his period in the vice presidency of the country, in addition to notes from the democratic politician. Neither the president nor the first lady, Jill Biden, were present at the time of the search, held on Friday (20).

This is the third wave of documents found in Biden’s possession. After aides to the president found papers in a private office in Washington and in the garage of his Wilmington home, the Justice Department last week appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the matter.

The content of the documents was not disclosed. It is also unclear why the papers were not held in the US National Archives, as required by law.

“I don’t think you’ll find anything there [nos documentos]”, Biden said on Thursday (19). ′′ We are cooperating fully and hope this will be resolved soon.”

The case came to light months after his biggest political opponent, Donald Trump, became the target of a federal investigation and accelerated a frying process for doing basically the same thing – albeit on a larger scale and with important differences.

In the case of Trump, the volume of documents was much larger and included documents related to national security. In addition, the former president resisted collaborating with the investigations, and had his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, searched by the FBI (American federal police).

At the time, Biden called the episode with the predecessor “totally irresponsible” – now offering a full plate for Republicans and Trump himself to accuse him of hypocrisy.
