Hooded men smash shop windows, set police car on fire and clash with police

Widespread violence broke out in Atlanta on Saturday on the sidelines of a protest rally over the death of an activist by police fire, as hooded men smashed shop windows, set a police car on fire and clashed with police.

The demonstration was organized to protest the death of 26-year-old activist Manuel Teran by police fire last Wednesday during an operation to evacuate a construction site. A $90 million police training center will be built on the site, with activists decrying deforestation and the impact on the environment.

Although the demonstration began peacefully, it quickly turned violent. Hooded men indulged in vandalism, set fires in the streets and clashed with security forces.

Although the authorities of the American metropolis were afraid that there would be no shortage of deviants during the protest rally, they were unable to prevent them.

The anger of many protesters at the death of the 26-year-old activist was overflowing. Many activists had camped for months in the area of the construction site, aiming to block the works.

According to Georgia State Police, Teran refused to comply with instructions from security forces to evacuate the area, fired first at officers and they returned fire. On Friday, the authorities even released a photo of the gun allegedly in the 26-year-old’s possession.

Police made at least six arrests, according to Fox 5.
