Russian forces are improving their positions in the Zaporizhia region, the country’s defense ministry claims.
“During offensive operations in the direction of Zaporizhia, units of the Eastern Military District occupied more advantageous terrain and positions,” the Defense Ministry said.
According to Reuters the Russians claim to have caused casualties and destroyed equipment in the Zaporizhia region, including Ukrainian combat vehicles, howitzers and two US-made Himars missiles.
Reuters, however, was unable to verify Russia’s claims.
Fighting in recent weeks has centered around the town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, where Russia’s Wagner mercenaries and Ukrainian forces have been locked in a battle of attrition.
It is recalled that yesterday, Agence France-Presse reports that Russian forces claimed to have taken “more advantageous lines and positions” during the offensive in the Zaporizhia region.
