Ukraine: Bakhmut targeted by Russian forces – 42 battles have taken place, army says

The city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine continues to be one of the key areas that Russian forces are trying to capture, and “everything is being done” to prevent Russian forces from being obstructed, Serhii Tserevaty, spokesman for the eastern group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said at a press conference. Forces during an interview on Ukrainian TV on Tuesday.

“Bahmut continues to be one of the main directions of enemy attacks – they have hit our positions there with artillery 197 times and there have been 42 battles. The enemy has suffered significant losses in soldiers in the last 24 hours: 277 enemy killed, 258 wounded of various degrees,” Tserevati said.

When asked if the Russians had succeeded in cutting off the main artery where food, troops and equipment are transported to Bahmut, Tserevati replied “not yet”.

“They did not succeed and everything is being done to prevent them from obstructing the movements of our units. All the necessary ammunition, equipment, food, anything else our forces need is provided to Bahamut,” he said.

When asked to comment on reports of a Russian offensive north of Bakhmut in the direction of Lyman, Tserevati said Russian forces “have been counter-attacking in that direction from time to time” and that he “cannot say whether it is a major offensive operation.”

Russian forces are also pounding Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv.
