Lavrov: Russia faces increasing risk from arms deliveries to Ukraine

The Russian foreign minister declared that the Russian forces will do everything in order to prevent the West’s plans regarding Ukraine.

Russia faces an increasing military risk in Ukraine as NATO member countries continue to arm the Ukrainian army, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday.

During a meeting between the two Foreign Ministers in Moscow, Mr. Lavrov said that the Russian forces will do everything in order to prevent the Western plans regarding Ukraine from being implemented.

“We are taking the necessary measures in order not to allow Ukraine to become an even greater threat to our security,” the head of Russian diplomacy said, referring to recent announcements from Western capitals about deliveries of heavy tanks.

Russia’s armed forces invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. They are accused of causing massive damage to areas across the country, including key political infrastructure such as electricity and water production and distribution networks. Russian armed forces are also blamed for the deaths of more than 7,000 civilians by the UN.

Mr. Lavrov confirmed that the meeting took place because his Egyptian counterpart conveyed a message from the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken. However, according to him, the message contained no substantive proposal, only demands for the withdrawal of the Russian army from Ukrainian territory and the cessation of hostilities.

He reiterated that Moscow sees the war as being used by the US and NATO to consolidate their global dominance and that it is at war with the entire West.

“Everything shows with absolute clarity that the issue is not Ukraine at all,” insisted the Russian Foreign Minister, judging that Kyiv does not act autonomously, he undertook to make Western aspirations a reality.
