Three days after a decapitated and dismembered body was found on the side of a road in southwestern France, the victim’s roommate confessed to the crime and was prosecuted for murder.
Montauban’s attorney Anne Golier said investigations had identified and arrested the suspect, who was living with the victim a few hundred meters from where the body was found.
The detainee confessed that on the night of Thursday to Friday he killed his friend by kicking and stabbing him with a knife and then dismembered the corpse to hide it. They had previously consumed alcohol and quarreled intensely.
The 52-year-old suspect hails from the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean and has previously been convicted by French courts of insulting public opinion and threatening to kill him.
On Friday afternoon, two people walking found the body on the side of the road. The victim’s head was found the next day, in a plastic bag, at a distance of about 100 meters.
The 31-year-old victim was also known to police for theft and other offenses.
